Barafu Camp

Barafu Camp, at an altitude of 4,600 metres, is the last camp before reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro.
Barafu Camp, at an altitude of 4,600 metres, is the last resting point for climbers before the final attempt to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Its name, meaning "ice" in Swahili, reflects the harsh environmental conditions, with temperatures dropping below freezing even during the day. The location, full of rocks and ice, offers stunning views of the valleys that stretch out below, creating an eerie and breathtaking setting. The climbers' tents are pitched on this rugged plain as they prepare themselves mentally and physically for the demanding climb that awaits them. Beyond the icy isolation, Barafu Camp is filled with the energy and stories of the climbers. It is a place where new chapters of courage and determination are written every day, with each group leaving its own imprint, either in the memory of fellow climbers or in small notes and mementos that remain as testimonies of the past. Despite the adverse conditions, life at Barafu Camp is full of optimism and anticipation as everyone prepares for the moment when they will be at the highest point in Africa.
