Yala National Park

This beautiful wildlife sanctuary, which is the second largest in the country, is known for its rich biodiversity.
Yala National Park, the second largest in Sri Lanka, is one of the most renowned destinations for wildlife watching. With five zones, two of which are accessible to the public, the park is home to an impressive variety of species. Elephants, leopards, bears, crocodiles and more than 200 species of birds find refuge in this area.

Yala has a rich history. During British colonial times, the area was used as hunting ground for the elite. In 1938, it was declared the country's first national park, marking the beginning of wildlife and biodiversity conservation.

The park is also notable for the diversity of its landscapes. From open grasslands and forested areas, to beaches that touch the Indian Ocean, Yala offers striking variations in natural scenery. This variety of landscapes makes it ideal for safari and photography tours.

It is particularly well known for its leopard populations. Yala is considered one of the best places in the world to observe these majestic animals in their natural habitat.

Yala National Park is a destination that combines adventure with the tranquility of nature, making it an essential stop for visitors interested in Sri Lanka's wildlife and natural landscapes.
