Perched over 200 meters above sea level on a steep cliff, this striking fortress offers sweeping views of the landscape below. Built by the Venetians in the early 18th century, it stands as a proud example of the military architecture of its time. The fortress is divided into eight bastions, each named after a Venetian commander, and connected by a maze of walls and gates that once formed a formidable defense against invaders. Within its walls are various structures, including barracks, a church, and a historic prison that once held Theodoros Kolokotronis, a hero of the Greek War of Independence.
